About JM Law

Estate planning, the way it should feel.

JM Law was built on a simple idea: estate planning is one of the most personal things a family will ever do, and it deserves a process that treats it that way.

Our Story

Why we built JM Law.

Jessica M. founded JM Law after years of watching families leave estate planning meetings with stacks of documents they did not fully understand. Plans were finished, files were closed, and clients were left to figure out implementation on their own.

She started JM Law to build the kind of practice she wished her own family had access to: a firm where the conversation comes first, the documents follow naturally, and the relationship continues for as long as the client needs it.

What we believe.

Education before drafting. Every engagement begins with an honest conversation about your goals, your family, and the trade-offs involved in different planning strategies. You receive a written plan design summary in plain language before we draft anything.

Flat-fee pricing. Hourly billing creates a clock that works against the very conversations clients need to have. Our flat fees mean you can ask every question, revisit every decision, and feel no pressure to move faster than you are ready.

Team approach. Your plan should never depend on the availability of one person. At JM Law, you work with a team that knows your situation, so help is always close at hand.

Serving families across five jurisdictions.

We are licensed to practice in Virginia, Maryland, Washington D.C., Florida, and California. For families with property, business interests, or beneficiaries spread across state lines, this multi-jurisdictional reach means coordinated planning under one roof, rather than juggling multiple firms.

A network that complements yours.

We coordinate closely with financial advisors, CPAs, insurance professionals, and other planning partners. Estate planning works best when it fits inside the broader financial life you have already built, and we make sure your plan is in conversation with the rest of it.

What to expect over time.

Estate plans are not finished documents. They are living systems that need to evolve as your family grows, your assets change, and the laws around you shift. Our clients often describe the relationship as feeling more like family counsel than legal services, and that is exactly what we are building.

"We finally have an estate plan we actually understand. The flat fee meant we asked every question we wanted to ask, and the answers were always clear."
